Avenue of Freedom - A Patriotic Flag DisplayWhat is it? The Avenue of Freedom is a display of nearly 100 American Flags along a 2-mile stretch of Gretna Road (from Highway 248 West to the bridge at Roark Valley Road). There are 2 weather-resistant flags flying from each light pole in the center of the road. Why is it there? The Avenue of Freedom was designed by the Branson Board of Aldermen and members of the Branson Veterans Task Force on November 14, 2001. It was established to honor U.S. veterans who gave their lives for freedom. It was also recognized as a memorial to those who died in the multiple terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. How is it maintained? The Branson Veterans Task Force maintains the flags, generally from April through December, with donations from individuals and businesses. The flags are taken down during the winter because of the possibility of severe weather conditions. Each flag is flown for 90 days. Upon retirement the flag is shipped with a certificate and the recipient's name is placed on the Avenue of Freedom Wall of Honor page on the Branson Veterans Task Force website. To view, click here.
