Silver Dollar City

Silver Dollar CityLocated at 399 Indian Point Road, Branson, Missouri

One of America's most popular vacation destinations, the 1880's-theme Silver Dollar City amusement park in 2007 is bigger than ever, with a brand-new thrill ride, musical shows, guest stars, 60 unique shops and big special events throughout the season.

The new GIANT Swing leads a lineup of 30 exciting thrill rides. Riders sitting back-to-back on two giant pendulum arms shoot through the barn doors at 45 mph and immediately soar 7 stories into the air, flying a full 250 degrees back and forth. It's a fantastic flying voyage into the Ozarks skies.

Other rides include Wildfire, a high-flying, multi-looping roller coaster that reaches speeds up to 66 miles per hour; PowderKeg, an explosive coaster that blows riders with compressed air from 0 to 53 mph in 2.8 seconds and reaches 64 mph with spiraling turns and negative g-force "floater" hills; the Grand Exposition with its 10 family rides to send folks flying, spinning and even hopping; and many, many others, including big, cooling, wet rides for the summer months.

June 9th marks the beginning of one of the nation's best celebrations for the kids-the National Kids Fest. Running through August 12th, Kids Fest features The Circus of the Century with clowns, amazing acrobats, and masters of flight; the NEW Basketball Show with lots of b-ball tricks; the Greatest Show on Ice with color skaters and specialty acts; and the All-Star Dogs and Gold Medal Kids Show, an all-out fun-filled competition with-you guessed it-dogs and kids.

Believe it or not, Silver Dollar City in 2007 features more than 40 live shows per day. You can hear everything from the Cajun music of Cedric Benoit to the traditional bluegrass and country of The Horsecreek Band to the shows at the Silver Dollar City Saloon and strolling street musicians.

August 30th-September 9th Silver Dollar City hosts the Southern Gospel Picnic and Southern Gospel Nights, featuring some of America's leading gospel artists. Performers include the Mark Trammell Trio, the McKameys, the Primitive Quartet, the Diplomats, Jerry & Tammy Sullivan, the Second Generation, Dixie Echoes, The Harrigill Family, the Downing Family, Crossway, multiple Dove Award winners The Isaacs, The Gospel Enforcers, Dottie Rambo, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, the Southern Brothers, and many, many more.

September 13th to October 27th is the time for Silver Dollar City's colorful Festival of American Music & Crafts. Guest stars include Michael Martin Murphey, Roy Rogers Jr., Steve Mitchell, the Eli Barsi Trio, R.W. Hampton, the Quebe Sisters Band, Gunsmoke star and western watercolorist Buck Taylor, and a corralful of cowboy entertainers-the Western Heritage Poets, Brian Hammill Native American Hoop Dancer, the Fables of the West comedy team, Travis Loewen and His Longhorn Steers, Trick Rider Janelle Thornton (presented by Dixie Stampede), Wild Mustang Trainer Fred Woehl, and the mighty American Buffalo. Also featured are cowboy crafters in the forgotten arts of custom hat, tack, boot, silversmith, blacksmith, western art, iron, bronze and more. The Festival also will include the 2nd Annual Best of American Boot Makers Competition, the only national competition of its kind-and you can cast your vote. Other Festival attractions include Taste of America, featuring real chuck wagon foods, plus over 400 musicians and 125 visiting artisans from across America.

From November 3rd-December 20th Silver Dollar City dons Christmas lights and all the merriment of the season for its Old Time Christmas Festival-the event CNN called "one of the top holiday destinations in the world." Featured are an all-new 7-story Special Effects Christmas Tree, a grand live production of Dickens Christmas Carol, The Living Nativity, the Gifts of Christmas Holiday Light Parade, Kringle's Krossing (Santa's Home Away from Home), and special holiday food treats & feasts throughout the park.

In 2007 Silver Dollar City's bill of fare includes over 100 craftsmen demonstrating everything from silversmithing to jewelrymaking to woodcarving, pottery, glassmaking, basketweaving and blacksmithing.

Specialty shops feature everything from stained glass to apple butter to dolls, toys, tole painting, leathercrafts, boots, hats, and many, many other distinctive products.

When it comes to foods and treats, Silver Dollar City is hard to beat, and for 2007 the park features more than 15 eateries, with fare ranging from fried chicken to funnel cake, catfish to pot roast, and wild greens to ribs. The park's on-the-go treats include pork rinds, funnel cakes, turkey legs, blasted onions, corn-on-the-cob, corn dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, frozen lemonade, caramel apples, Dippin' Dots, deep-fried Twinkies and Oreos, and hand-dipped homemade ice cream.

No matter how you slice it, 2007 is banner year for vacationing fun at Silver Dollar City Park. Don't miss it!
