Grand Ladies of Country Music
At the God and Country Theatre, 1840 W. Highway 76.
The Grand Ladies of Country Music Show features a rotating cast of Grand Ole Opry Stars: Norma Jean, Jean Shepard, Wanda Jackson, Leona Williams, Ava Barber, Mary Lou Turner and Jody Miller.
Norma Jean, also known as Pretty Miss Norma Jean, gained fame with her appearances on The Porter Wagoner Show before she was replaced by Dolly Parton. You'll hear some of her top Country singles like "Let's Go All The Way" and "The Game of Triangles."
Jean Shepard was a notable figure on the country charts from 1953 to 1976, with her biggest hits being "A Dear John Letter" (with Ferlin Husky), "A Satisfied Mind," "Beautiful Lies" and "Slippin' Away." It's interesting to note that she was the first female country singer to make a color tv commercial!
Wanda Jackson, hailed as the Queen of Rockabilly, has been a singer and songwriter since 1954. "Let's Have A Party" was one of her pop chart successes before she switched over to country music in the 1960's.
Leona Williams, who landed her first radio show at the age of 15, has had hits with "Once More," "Yes Ma'am," "He Found Me In A Honky Tonk," "Country Girl With Hot Pants On" and "Broadminded."
Ava Barber, the successful country singer best known for her appearances on The Lawrence Welk Show through the 1970's and early 1980's, had hits such as "Bucket To The South" and "You're Gonna Love Love." From 1997-2000 she performed at Branson's Lawrence Welk Theatre.
Mary Lou Turner worked often with duet partner "Whispering" Bill Anderson.
Jody Miller won the Grammy award for Best Female Vocal Country Performance in 1966 for her signature hit "Queen of the House." It was her "answer" to Roger Miller's big hit "King of the Road." Jody also had hits with "Home of the Brave," "Look At Mine," "If You Think I Love You Now (I Just Started)" and "He's So Fine."
These legendary Grand Ole Opry Stars come together in one theater 3-at-a-time, to perform their timeless hit songs. Never have so many legends of country music come together at one venue to showcase country music and its history.
Showtimes are Monday through Saturday at 7 pm, April 1 through December 13, 2008.
