The Brett Family is busy right now - it's called rehearsals for the big opening night of their 12th Branson season on Tuesday, April 13, 2010. Wait. Strike that. It's opening morning on the 13th! Their shows are at 10 am at the Dick Clark American Bandstand Theater. We know they're working on some new songs for this season - something to look forward to! Spring Break Bash with Rock U Mentally

Rock U Mentally - back at the Dick Clark American Bandstand Theater for its 2nd season - starts its regular season in July, but also has some rockin' plans for Spring Break. They call it their Spring Break Bash with shows at 10 am on March 19 & 20 and 26 & 27. Holy cow, what a fun way to start your day. They've also added a Rock U Mentally Cast & Character Luncheon immediately after every show at the Uptown Cafe. Will the kids love this, or what? Bring your camera!

Legends in August - Michael Jackson

Ready for 2010: Riders of the Circle B

This show will fit nicely into your Branson vacation itinerary. First, make sure you've worked up a good hunger. The doors to the Circle B Supper Show open at 4:15 pm. The eating begins with FREE popcorn & cowboy movies. Then get ready for supper at 5 pm served to your table followed by the hour-long cowboy music & comedy stage show. It's all put on by the Horn Family - click the video button below (or here) to listen to Christiana Horn's beautiful voice.

Our three top tips:

save room for dessert - it's a made-from-scratch cinnamon roll (yum!)
if they take requests, ask for "Fernando" (unless they already did it!)
you'll be done by 7 pm, so schedule another 8 pm show after your Circle B evening

Good reminders from the Branson Fire Department

Sunday, March 14, 2010 is when we change our clocks forward an hour for Daylight Savings Time. The Branson Fire Department would like to remind everyone:

to CHANGE the batteries in our smoke alarms
to set your clocks forward one hour on Saturday night or Sunday morning
to push the TEST button to make sure the alarm is functioning properly. We like that suggestion - stop reading right now and try it out on yours!
to place smoke alarms in each sleeping room, on each level of the home and in common areas like hallways and stairwells
to develop an escape plan showing two ways out of each room in the home. Once developed, practice that plan with the entire family to the sound of the smoke alarm each month and gather at the designated meeting place outside the home

If you need help with your smoke alarm installation or placement, call your local fire department or if you live in the Branson area call the Branson Fire Department's Technical Services Division at 417-337-8580.

Be safe so you can visit often!

Spring Break at the Hamner Barber Theatre

With Dippin' Dots ice cream at the concession stand and magic tricks in the gift shop, the Hamner Barber Variety Show really should be on your list of things to do with the kids - or grandkids - over Spring Break. They will love the incredible magic illusions performed by The Hamners, the wacky comedy & singing of ventriloquist Jim Barber and the troupe of amazing dancers. Seriously fun stuff!

Jim Owen in Branson

Do you know who wrote the song that was named (by CMT & the CMA) the second most popular duet in the history of country music? The song is "Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man" - written by Jim Owen and sung by Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynn. Click below (or here) to see Jim Owen himself perform it. By the way, his show is back in Branson this year at the Branson Mall Music Theater. He's doing 3 weeks in May and then back again in September, October, November and December (Jim's 2010 schedule).

Time to remember a Branson entertainment pioneer

It's time to remember entertainment legend and comedian Lyle Mabe of The Baldknobbers Show. He passed from the scene on Saturday, February 27, 2010 in an Ozark, Missouri nursing home after a long illness. He was 71.

The Baldknobbers started performing in 1959. Lyle Mabe played the washtub bass in the show from 1959-1991 and was well-known as the "George Aggernite" character. Some of you might also remember Lyle in the tv commercials for Empire Gas. His son Brent is currently the music director for The Baldknobbers.

All of us at BransonWorld.com join you and his family in remembering Lyle. His love of comedy, entertaining and Branson will continue to inspire generations to come...

Hekuva deal on flights to Branson

The Branson Airport's newest airline, Frontier Airlines, is having a grand opening sale (that's our description, not theirs!). They call it the Introductory Fares for their new Branson service. The new service goes between Branson and Denver, Colorado and connects to over 50 other destinations from Denver. You can start using those flights on April 20, 2010 - there'll be 4 per week.

Good news: the flights are non-stop on an Embraer E190 aircraft, a 99-seat plane with leather seats in a 2x2 configuration.

Here's the lowdown on the introductory fares:

fly to/from Branson for as low as $79 each way
sale-priced tickets must be purchased by 9:59 pm (MT) on April 15, 2010
travel dates for the sale tickets has to be between April 20 and September 28, 2010

Who remembers when Tony Melendez performed in Branson? We do! The actual years escape us, but we could look back in The Branson Getaway Guide (from when we had a 12-year run of the print version of BransonWorld.com) to find the show info and schedule. Wasn't he at The Remember When Theater at the IMAX and The Remington Theatre? Shoot, we've slept since then, so we could be wrong!

Interesting:

Tony was born without arms and a club foot; he plays guitar with his toes
His band is the "Toe Jam Band"
Tony performed for Pope John Paul II in Los Angeles in 1987
Tony and his wife still live in Branson

One of Branson's most unique shows is a group of six real brothers performing at the Hughes American Family Theatre under the name - you may have guessed - SIX. Ready for 2010: Dixie Stampede

In just a couple of weeks, the new season of The Dixie Stampede Show gets underway. Get ready for magnificent horses, beautiful Southern Belles, gallant Gents, dancers, trick riders and more - a lot more. The show itself is spectacular, plus you get to stuff yourself on some very tasty food while you watch (doggy bags are provided if you can't finish it all - we dare you to try!).

Hot tip from BransonWorld.com: the pre-show with David Lucas starts about an hour before the Dixie Stampede Show. Don't miss it! And remember to arrive early for it so you get a good seat. The pre-show seats are first-come-first-serve and the best seats fill up fast, as you can imagine. Plus, the earlier you arrive, the more time you have to look at the beautiful horses at the outdoor horsewalk on your way into the show. Bring your camera!

Country music superstar Carrie Underwood is performing in Springfield, Missouri (about 40 minutes north of Branson) at the John Q. Hammons Arena on Tuesday, June 15, 2010.
