We've heard that Clay Cooper has bought the Moe Bandy Theatre. He started in Branson with Country Tonite, opened a morning show at the Caravelle theatre and continued there through last season. He is planning 2 morning and 6 evening shows this season (2007). Great guy.

The Western Music Association Convention was held in Albuquerque, New Mexico in November, and Branson’s own Paula Press, of the John Wayne and America’s Yodeling Sweetheart Show, won the award for Best Female Yodeler. It’s even the second time she’s won such an award. You can see her and the show with the John-Wayne-look-alike Ermal Williamson at The Nova Theater, located at 1840 W Highway 76, Branson, Missouri.

With so much new construction happening in Branson and Hollister right now, trucks hauling gravel, concrete and steel outnumber tour buses.

In 1950, Hugo, the step-father of Jack and Peter Herschend, acquired a long-term lease on Marvel Cave near Branson. Later, the Herschend brothers opened Silver Dollar City, a re-creation of an 1880’s Ozark mining town, as a place to entertain visitors to Marvel Cave while they waited to take the cave tour. However, in its first year, Silver Dollar City drew four times as many visitors as the cave! The rest is history.

For the first time since 1996, the number of Branson Chamber of Commerce memberships has exceeded the 1000 mark. Business is booming!

wasn’t a popular item at the Brown Candy Factory located in Silver Dollar City. However, the Chocolate-Covered Strawberries were (and still are) a huge hit with visitors and regulars alike. The record number of strawberries dipped in a single day: 932. That’s what the sign reads at the exit doors to uncovered parking lots at Skaggs Community Health Center in Branson, Missouri. In the spring, employees collect umbrellas and put them by the doors.

The Springfield-Branson Airport has recently gained flights to Atlanta, but now it looks like it may lose two daily flights to Salt Lake City, Utah. There has been no official announcement of the change to date, but the Delta Airlines Website shows that the flights are not there as of December 1, 2005. More to come.

The current owner of the vacant motel, which was one of Branson`s nicest hotels more than 40 years ago, has received permission to demolish the hotel. In its place, you may someday be looking at The Towers at Branson Landing, featuring towering condos on the lakefront.
